In 2021, KE introduced the Roshni Baji project, a ground-breaking initiative that allows women to take on the role of neighbourhood ambassadors while strengthening the link between KE and its consumers. The project recognises that women and children in low-income neighbourhoods are more likely to be electrocuted as a result of malfunctioning equipment and risky practices in their own homes. Roshni Bajis visited these communities’ houses to demonstrate the need of safety around electricity, encourage the use of legal power connections, and provide energy conservation recommendations.
Roshni Bajis undergo extensive personal and professional growth, communication skills, motorcycle riding, and training in self-defense. They also receive training in Pakistan’s first female-certified electrical curriculum, which includes a demanding certification procedure that includes 8000 hours of instruction. Graduates of this program are capable of installing all interior wiring on a single-phase energy supply up to 5kW that runs from the electric utility’s meters to a home’s distribution panel. They can also estimate appliance load and energy usage, guaranteeing that the electrical supply within houses is safe and stable.
